Meet Our Team of Psychiatrists and Therapists

Greta Park — Clinton Twp, MI — Hamzavi Psychiatry and Wellness Center

Asra Hamzavi, DO, Founder

Dr. Asra Hamzavi is a board certified, adult outpatient psychiatrist & the founder of Hamzavi Psychiatry and Wellness Center. She is passionate about increasing awareness of the mind-body-spirit connection. She also strives to educate patients and communities about mental health, stressing that it is the foundation of all health. There is no health, without mental health.

Dr. Hamzavi is known for her thorough evaluations and management that often help patients begin to see the whole of their story, not just the broken pieces they have been carrying. She considers not only how genetics or biology plays a role in causing symptoms, but how context, such as, an individual’s childhood experiences, education, community, relationships, career, faith, family and more, are contributing to the patient’s current state. In doing so, she aims to provide holistic treatments while relying on medications only to the extent they are necessary. When appropriate, she utilizes genetic testing to help narrow down medication options & she works with her patients to decide what treatments are best for them. She is often successful in managing patients with lower medication doses while offering consistent follow up. Her patients are seen exclusively by her, ensuring continuity of care that is rarely offered in outpatient care.

Dr. Hamzavi is known for including therapists, family, friends or even clergy into the evaluation process. That collaboration is offered only when the patient is interested in doing so and when there is a clear benefit for the patient. As a result, most of her new patients are referred by current patients or colleagues.

She has been invited to speak at local schools, universities, and radio programs on various topics, from mental illness, to the impact of digital technology on individuals and relationships.

Dr. Hamzavi received her Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, her Masters from Wayne State University and her medical degree from Michigan State University. She completed her residency in General Psychiatry at Henry Ford Hospital before starting her own practice.

Dr. Hamzavi sees a range of conditions and has expertise in adult ADHD. She understands that ADHD comes with gifts as well as challenges and knows that these neurodiverse individuals are often the primary creative force in every field. Many people with ADHD can envision what others may miss. She has helped countless patients reach the potential they knew they had. She provides psychiatric evaluations, consultations for couples dealing with ADHD's impact on relationships, and one-time consultations for those who may be out of network. At present, she is only accepting new patients for the evaluation & management of ADHD. However, Dr. Khan & Dr. Park are excellent, fully licensed psychiatrists who are available to see ADHD and other psychiatric referrals.

Dr. Hamzavi feels blessed to be a wife and mother, and is a proud native of Southeast Michigan.
